Starting A New Job and I have Nothing To Wear!

Posted on Posted in Business Attire

Recently I had two clients start new jobs.  They both had the same problem. They were going from jobs where they wore very casual attire and were now going to working in offices that were business casual.  Both of them were starting from scratch. They both had similar requests from me.

  1. Purchase items that you can mix and match
  2. Must be business casual
  3. Must be budget friendly
  4. Would like to be able to wear some of the pieces from day to night
  5. My clients don’t work in a conservative office, so some items I have selected wouldn’t work in a conservative office, but most will.

Here are some tips for business casual dress for a woman.

  1. Make sure that the pants have a good fit
  2. The pants are a good quality
  3. Try to stick to solid color, that way your co-workers won’t know where you are in your rotation.

Below are some pants at different price points that are good to try. Remember, pants fit everyone differently,so you might have try a couple styles or brands before you find your fit. Once you find a brand that fits you, buy it in a couple of different colors.

Below are some dresses and skirts that can be worn from day tonight. Remember that your hemlines should be at your knee or right above your knee. You are at work not at club. Some of the hemlines look at little short on the models due to their height.

The next thing that needs to be purchased are tops, sweaters, and blazers that can be mixed and matched.  The blazers and sweaters should also be able to mixed and matched with the dresses you bought so you use them to layer them and mix the styles up. You don’t want cleavage to be showing. You can pick shirt that are trend and fashion forward as long as they are not revealing  and are not too tight. Just like your pants you want them the to have a good fit.
