The Mall Trip That Made My Client Cry (And What We Did About It)
The Client
My client reached out after another frustrating trip to the mall. Menopause had changed her body, and she no longer knew how to dress it or feel like herself. The items that were once her favorites items no longer looked right on her body, and some of the items made her sweat.
The Closet Edit
Her closet held three decades: her twenties, her pregnancies, and the woman she was still becoming. These clothes no longer fit her. The closet edit gave me a better understanding of what she liked about her body, what she disliked. She would light up when she put on an outfit that made her feel great. I could see it in her body language when something didn’t work. I have noticed that during closet edits clients tell me things that they don’t always have filled out on their questionairres. This gives me more of an insite of what makes them tick.
Dated Clothes
Sorting through it felt like a walk down memory lane. The clothes didn’t fit her body or the leader she’d become. Trying on her go to office pieces, the confidence just wasn’t there.
New Body, New Wardrobe
Time to figure out how she wanted to show up. Three questions guided us:
- What message did she want to send in the boardroom and when she was out.
- What did she need for work, and for life outside it?
- What did she actually feel comfortable wearing? The Moment It Clicked
She needed to see it, not hear it. I pulled a range of pieces so she could try them on and feel the shift herself. What she chose was sophisticated, polished, and built for the body she has now.
The Urgency No One Talks About
Without that shift, the discomfort wouldn’t have stayed small. It would have followed her into:
- Feeling like a stranger in her own clothes.
- Losing her style not because her taste changed, but because her body did.
- Being unprepared for whatever life threw at her next.
- Quietly fading instead of owning who she’d become
The Takeaway
This wasn’t about clothes. It was about helping her meet her new body with confidence and a wardrobe that actually reflects who she is now.
